Tragedy at Kyoto Animation Studio

Recommended Posts

I'm sure that a lot of you on here are aware by now, but on Thursday, July 18th, an arsonist set fire to Kyoto Animation's original anime studio at around 10AM JST. The suspect has been apprehended, but 33 people have tragically lost their lives in the blaze, dozens more were injured, a few major directors are missing & there was considerable damage done to the building. This is a terrible moment in history for Japan, since this has been the worst mass casualty since World War II. For those of you who do not know who Kyoto Animation is, they are a world renowned anime studio who have created some of anime's most iconic shows such as Lucky Star, Suzumiya Haruhi, Clannad, K-On! & their most recent hit TV series, Violet Evergarden.

This is terrible & heartbreaking news for anyone who is a fan of Kyoto Animation or anime in general. We have changed the site background as a tribute to KyoAni and their incredible contribution to the anime industry and anime fans alike. If you would like to help Kyoto Animation in this desperate time of need, there are a few ways to do so. I've provided a link to a GoFundMe page that Sentai Filmworks has created as a donation drive to help Kyoto Animation get back on their feet and provide funds & assistance to the families who have lost loved ones due to this tragedy. Sentai Filmworks works very closely with Kyoto Animation and has licensed a few of their anime for release in the United States in the past. It has raised over $1 million dollars in less than a day, and its still growing as we speak. Another way to assist is through Kyoto Animation's direct shop. From there you can purchase high resolution images of anime that Kyoto Animation has worked on. Each image is a very small price of ¥216 ($2 USD) and all proceeds go directly to the studio. I've also provided a guide created by a helpful Twitter user to help you navigate through the site since it is in Japanese. Please donate if you can and show some love!
